The Les Garrigues Designation of Origin has been around for 30 years, which makes it the oldest DO in Spain (1975). It was certified by the European Union as a Protected Designation of Origin in 1996. The Les Garrigues PDO is the certifying organization responsible for ensuring the oils of the member cooperatives undergo strict production and processing controls to guarantee the origin and utmost quality of what is undoubtedly one of the finest oils in the world.

The maximum acidity allowed by PDO regulations is 0.5%, but the oils marketed under the Les Garrigues PDO have an average acidity level of less than 0.2%. Only high-quality arbequina olives harvested directly from the tree are used to make Les Garrigues PDO Virgin Olive Oil. It is an oil with a flavour all its own, which comes from the variety of olive, the climate, the soil and the good production practices of the official growers and processors. The natural properties and quality of this oil make it an essential part of a healthy Mediterranean diet.

The oil is obtained by cold pressing the olives to preserve all their natural properties. The result is a natural fruity oil that is rich in polyphenols, the antioxidants found in olives that are very beneficial to health. Production controls ensure that only good, environmentally friendly farming practices are used.
The growing methods applied by farmers in the Les Garrigues PDO, the area’s climate, the care taken when harvesting the arbequina olives and the oil-processing methods are the best way to ensure that the top-quality olive oil obtained is 100% natural.
